Ellen DeGeneres' June wedding

Although it hasn't been confirmed by either Ellen's people or Portia's people, there are rumours of a possible summertime wedding for the two. Ellen and Portia have been dating since 2004, and "currently live in Santa Barbara with 2 dogs and 2 cats."

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: "Portia demanded that Ellen marry her. After lots of talk and plenty of hints, Portia finally confronted Ellen right after the Oscars about making a commitment."

"Ellen's hiatus starts at the end of May, and her show doesn't start up again until August. That gives Ellen some much-needed time with her new bride.

Study: Men's eyesight tracks crotches

I'm also heartened by the article's first featured finding: that tighter writing, more white space, and jettisoning unnecessary imagery helps readers read faster and retain more of what they've read.

Source: kottke.org

Please click through to view the image. It's actually very interesting.
The basis for this article is from an Online Journalism Review study that used eyetracking points to craft a more effective article design. Through this they noticed that when looking at an image, men looked at the same points as women did, but also the crotch area. This was true when viewing both male and female images.

Although both men and women look at the image of George Brett when directed to find out information about his sport and position, men tend to focus on private anatomy as well as the face. For the women, the face is the only place they viewed.

Parasuco's Vancouver store opens today

Parasuco denim has finally opened their flagship Vancouver store. I covered this for Sweetspot.ca and thought I should share it with all of you -- who like me -- have a crazy jean fetish thing going on.

Walking into the Victorian-inspired boutique with its giant hanging chandelier, we felt like we’d found just the right fit between cushy luxury and casual style. (The marble and mosaic counter tops and off-white leather recliners weren’t too shabby, either.)

Meat free environmentalism

According to Matt Drudge's popular blogsite Drudgereport, PETA sent a letter to former Vice President Al Gore this week offering to turn to him onto vegetarianism. They say the meat industry is the majority contributor to greenhouse-gas emmissions. Apparently, according to a UN report, raising animals for food consumption produces more of these harmful emmissions than all the trucks and cars in the world.

"Researchers at the University
of Chicago have determined that switching to a vegan diet is more
effective in countering global warming than switching from a standard
American car to a Toyota Prius."

“The single best thing that any of us can do to
for our health, for animals, and for the environment is to go
vegetarian,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. “The best and
easiest way for Mr. Gore to show his critics that he’s truly committed
to fighting global warming is to kick his meat habit immediately.”
