Nicole Ritchie confirms she is pregnant

Nicole Ritchie is four months pregnant and Diane Sawyer got the exclusive interview. Good Morning America broke it today and the episode will air on "20/20" episode that airs tonight. In the interview, Ritchie also talks about why young stalets like Lindsay Lohan and her best friend Paris Hilton are acting so eratically. Ritchie herself was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on December 12. She was sentenced to four days in jail for that stint, which she has to serve by September 28.

Yes, I am. We are. I'm almost four months," Richie told Sawyer.

Rare fossilized cypress trees found in Hungary

Hungarian scientists found rare Taxodium trees that instead of turning into stone as - they should be - were preserved. They were found in an open-cast coal mine which allows the scientists to study the samples as if they were cross sections cut from a piece of living wood.

But the real rarity about these trees is that ... their original wood got preserved ... they did not turn into stone

Australian school makes sunglasses compulsory

Does wearing your shades to school mean you're too cool for school? Not if you live in Australia and your in kindergarten to Grade 6. The "sunnies" as the Aussies call them are now part of school dress policy to protect the little buggers' eyeballs.

A specialist at Sydney Eye Hospital told the national AAP news agency that wraparound glasses were the best for eye protection and children should be encouraged to wear them from the age of three or four.

Robin Roberts has breast cancer

I met Robin when I was an intern at Good Morning America a few years ago. One of the most gracious and lovely women at that shop. I wish her the best. Kick this thing in the butt, Robin!

I never thought I'd be writing this. … I have breast cancer.

Star Jones: I had gastric bypass surgery

You can tell your career is in the crapper when you have to do an interview about your gastric bypass to make the news. By the way Star, we all knew that you had a gastric bypass, so really it's old news.

But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me

A Hit Dog Hollers

I met Faye at Blogher in Chicago and was immediately struck by her energy and passion for politics. I couldn't not join her circle of conversation when we were at lunch. She also participated in a panel that discussed political blogging and women bloggers that do and can make a difference with their blogs. I've highlighted her blog, so you can see just what I'm talking about it. In this entry, Faye discusses the political acumen of black voters in regards to Barack Obama. The "admission" as she calls it. Read it, it's good.

Off to a blogging conference…without a functioning laptop…..:)

I met Tresha at BlogHer this year and she really captivated me. She said she wants to move to Vancouver and might do so. She was thinking of driving her friend's van across the state. I think it's a good idea.

Paris Hilton loses inheritance

Paris Hilton's grandfather has axed her inheritance. It seems he did not like her recent jail stint, so he decided to teach her a hefty lesson. The $60 million she had in the bank is now gone to better causes, in particular the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the charity set up in the name of the founder of the family business. Although, Paris does have a brand and she works hard at keeping her party image profitable, some Hilton family analysts say that he didn't want to leave all that money to someone who didn't earn it.

He now doesn't want to leave unearned wealth to his family

BlogHer 2007: Women Across the World

I'm attending a panel at Blogher 2007 callled "Women across the World" and it's examining social media and blogging in respect to women journalists in foreign countries. The panel consists of four women from India, the Middle East, Kenya and Trinidad. Global Voices is sponsoring the event.

The media has recently done a good job at highlighting the poor attendance record of Kenyan MPs even during critical debates like the presentation of the budget. Most MPs are busy trying to figure out which party will be their ticket for 2007.

Chuchito Valdez at the Green Mill in Chicago

I knew that I would have to see a live show this weekend while I was in Chicago and I did. I could not believe that Chuchito Valdez happened to be at th legendary Green Mill for the weekend ( in one of the bathroom stalls someone wrote on the wall that their mother had been there in 1948 and now they were together in 2007.) He is an amazing Afro-Cuban jazz pianist and if you can see him live, go. The show was amazing. I met the band, danced all night and had a blast.

his ensemble performs contemporary Afro-Cuban originals composed by the leader, Chuchito Valdes, Original Arrangements of classic Latin Jazz standards by Chucho Valdes Sr. and Irakere and much more.

Boy's lemonade stand robbed..not nice

This is the meanest thing I've ever heard. I can't believe someone robbed this poor boy's lemonade stand. It's only $20, but that's an entire afternoon's worth of squishing lemons, mixing it with water and selling the delicious drink to pedestrians.

Cundy was robbed by two teenagers of a plastic container containing $20 that he had collected by selling cold drinks from a stand.

Britney's son gets hit in Las Vegas brawl

My question is: Why are her young sons at the Wynn, hanging-out at night with her near paparazzi and bodyguards? Why aren't they in bed? Britney is a disaster..

Pop princess Brit had been at the Wynn Hotel and Casino for less then 24-hours with her children when the fight broke out.

Police did not immediately file charges against the photographer but Britney's bodyguard was cited for misdemeanor battery.

Former CNN anchor Carol Lin at BlogHer 2007

I'm listening in a "track session" or breakout session on the life stages of online communities. Carol Lin just explained her decision to start a blog and leave her high powered CNN anchor job. She said she knew she had to make a change after her husband died of cancer and she couldn't view delivering or processing news the same. She said for example she didn't feel that North Korea launching a nuclear missile had the same weight anymore or delivering the news rather didn't feel the same. She also explains that in her opinion a more interactive way of delivering news or letting people participate in the news process is the way to go.

Carol Lin is a journalist who served as news anchor for CNN, national correspondent for ABC's "Good Morning America" and reported for World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.

NowPublic at BlogHer 2007 in Chicago

I'm blogging from Chicago's Navy Pier this morning from BlogHer 2007, a huge blogging conference sponsored by BlogHer, Google, AOL, Dove and GM. There are about 700 women attending this 3rd annual event. The introductions just took place where a survey was announced . BlogHer created the BlogHer Act last year, where they surveyed women bloggers to see what issues or topics they wanted to focus on this year and what issues were pertinent for the 2008 U.S. elections. In collaboration with BlogHer Act Canada, the #1 topic women cared about or wanted to address this year was health care and the state of world health care. The environment, Iraq and homelessness, poverty and hunger were also issues women bloggers wanted to address in more detail this year.
