Ladies.
How would you feel if your employer required you to detail your last menstrual cycle and the last time you took a maternity leave, so you can keep your job? No, I'm not kidding.
Women civil servants in India are shocked that as a part of an annual performance review, they are now required to reveal such personal information. The annual appraisals are issued by the federal Ministry of Personnel Public Grievances and Pensions. Although the ministry officials have not yet commented on the intent of this new evaluation form, many think it's part of a health assessment initiative. Some women civil servants are now thinking of writing a letter to the ministry to protest the new form.
Imagine if this happened in North America or Europe? Can we start a movement against this measure to help the civil workers in India? This is obscene.
Menstrual cycles are a natural phenomenon, they are not an aberration. One does not object to questions related to fitness levels - they are important as they can affect work.
