New Depression Rx: Get Married?

A recent study suggests that depressed people may benefit more from marriage than happy people. After surveying both depressed/recently married, depressed/unmarried, and happy/married couples, the depressed recently married couples came out on top, recording an increased amount of happiness from the time they were just depressed and single. But they still have unhappier marriages. Which would suggest that although marital quality sucks still for them, they do benefit from the emotional and psychological benefits of marriage. I think it somehow still proves that happy people might want to think twice about tying the knot. This is an unscientific analysis.

The big remaining question, she says, is why depressed people benefit more from marriage than happy people. It could be that marriage provides the companionship and emotional support needed to help alleviate depression
