AP: Seafood from China wasn't screened

Although no illnesses have been reported yet, according to an AP investigation there is over 1 million pounds of unchecked seafood, mostly frozen shrimp, eel and catfish that is on U.S. soil and in consumers' hands. The goods were under import alert, which meant that the FDA was supposed to perform a mandatory check, however this was not done.

The frozen shrimp, catfish and eel arrived at U.S. ports under an "import alert," which meant the FDA was supposed to hold every shipment until it had passed a laboratory test.
